Last Thursday, August 20th, Julia Gama was appointed and officially announced as Miss Brazil Universe 2020. In a recorded video, Zozibini Tunzi, the current Miss Universe, announced Gama as the chosen one to hold this Brazilian national title and to represent Brazil in the 69th edition of the Miss Universe contest. The ceremony was recorded in São Paulo and hosted by pageant expert and historian, and now a director of Miss Brazil Universe, Roberto Macedo. In 2014, Julia Gama, a student of Chemical Engineering from Porto Alegre, Rio Grande do Sul, won the Miss World Brazil title in the city of Florianópolis, and competed in Miss World, in London. Julia had the third-highest score in the preliminary interview, among 121 candidates, and was the co-winner of the Beauty With a Purpose, with the project “All Against the Hansen´s Disease”. Overall, she placed in the Top 10, while Rolene Strauss of South Africa became Miss World 2014.

After that, Julia went back to Rio, where she studied acting at Nu Espaço, taking advantage of a scholarship she won when she became Miss World Brazil. When being prepared to compete in Miss World by Venezuelan coach Alexander Gonzalez, in China, Gama caught the attention of a Chinese cosmetic brand, and after she graduated as an actress, she accepted a proposal to represent the Chinese cosmetic brand Balincan. Julia Gama moved to China, where her acting career took off, as she appeared in two Chinese blockbusters.

In May of 2020, Gama was invited by Mr. Winston Ling, who had just signed the contract as Brazil´s new license holder for the Miss Universe Organization, to be his first Miss Brazil Universe, after all, the coronavirus pandemic made it difficult for a new national contest to take place. Julia accepted the invitation and kept it secret until August 20th, when her name was revealed.
