2008: ANALYSING THE MAIN CHANGES IN THE GRAND SLAM RANKING DURING THE PAST YEAR

  • It was in 2008 when Colombia first entered the Top 5, going up 3 notches! Second places in Miss Universe and Miss International gave the South American country the extra edge it needed to finally occupy such an important position;

  • Spain also reached its highest position in the Grand Slam title up to that year, at 11th place (up 2). Spain won the Miss International title in 2008.

  • Mexico, up 2 notches, joined the Top 20 for the first time, in 20th place;

  • Russia, the Miss World winner, went up 4 notches, reaching the 32nd place in the ranking;

  • Hungary, up 19, 104th place, was the best mover of the year.

COUNTRY OF THE YEAR 2008: VENEZUELA

It was the tightest race for Country of the Year ever! Venezuela, Russia, and Spain, were practically tied in first place! But it was Venezuela, with its Miss Universe victory with the extraordinary @dayanamendoza , plus semi-finalists in Miss World and Miss International, which got the extra edge to be on top for the 9th time!

Very close behind was Russia, with a victory in Miss World, with beautiful @kseniasukhinova , and a 3rd runner-up in Miss Universe. Spain took bronze also very close behind Russia, after winning the Miss International title, with stunning @alejandraandreu , and having semi-finalists in Miss Universe and Miss World.

This is how close it was:

1) Venezuela (3975 points);
2) Russia (3951);
3) Spain (3800).

Top 5: Colombia (2401) and South Africa (1350).
