1992: ANALYSING THE MAIN CHANGES IN THE GRAND SLAM RANKING DURING THE PAST YEAR

  • The United States surpassed the 100,000 point mark, remaining in a very solid 1st place;

  • Australia, up 1, 7th place, overtook Germany, now 8th, its lowest historical ranking up to 1992;

  • Colombia has finally made it to the Top 10, becoming a Grand Slam “powerhouse”. The Philippines fell to the 11th pageant;

  • Russia kept on rising, earning 20 new spots, going from 73rd to 53rd place in the Grand Slam Ranking;

  • Namibia, 58th place, was the best mover of the year, moving 24 notches up;

  • The Bahamas finally placed in a Grand Slam contest (Top 10 in Miss World), reaching the 84th position in the ranking (+15).

After two decades, Australia was once again the Country of the Year. The Aussie representative in Miss International, Kirsten Davison, was the winner in Nagasaki. Georgina Dehany took Australia back to the Miss Universe's top 10 for the first time since 1976. It was enough for Australia to lead the way in pageantry in 1992.

Namibia, winner of Miss Universe with Michelle McLean , and Russia, winner of Miss World with Yuliya Kourochkina, tied in second place.
