Puerto Rico, winner of Miss Universe, came 2nd, while Iceland, after conquering its first Miss World title, was 3rd.
Zaire, currently the Democratic Republic of Congo, had an extraordinary year, with Benita Mureka Tete placing third in Miss Universe and making it to the Top 15 in Miss World, where she was also named Queen of Africa. In Miss International, Tumba Mulamba placed in the Top 15. Zaire was 5th that year, an extraordinary accomplishment for a black African nation those days!
