In 1984 Venezuela had a near-perfect year in Grand Slam beauty pageants! In London, Astrid Carolina Herrera became the 3rd woman from Venezuela to be crowded Miss World. In Miami, Carmen Maria Montiel was 2nd runner-up in Miss Universe, while in Yokohama, Japan, another Venezuelan stunner by the name of Miriam Leiderman, was 2nd in Miss International. Venezuela was, for the 2nd time, Country of the Year. Sweden, winner of @missuniverse with the very stunning Yvonne Ryding, and 3rd in Japan, with Gunilla Kohlström, came 2nd. Guatemala was put on the world's "beauty map" by the lovely Ilma Julieta Urrutia, the 1984 @missinternationalofficial winner, and a semi-finalist in Miss Universe. Guatemala was the 3rd most successful country that year.
