  • Venezuela went up one very important notch and was then 11th, very close to making it to the Top 10.

  • After winning the Miss Universe title, New Zealand also made a significant move, going from 22nd to 19th place (+3).

  • Costa Rica won its 2nd Miss International title in 1983, moving 9 notches up. It ranked 37th that year, continuing to lead the Central American nations. It was the biggest mover of the year!

British Grand Slam beauties once again stood out in 1983, making Britain "Country of the Year" for the 4th time. Beautiful Sarah-Jane Hutt was the 5th woman from her country to be crowned Miss World, while Nicola Stanley was in the Top 15 of Miss International, and Karen Moore, Miss England, placed 5th in Miss Universe.

New Zealand, after a Miss Universe victory by Lorraine Downes, and a Top 15 placement in Miss International, came 2nd, while Costa Rica, winner of Miss International with Gidget Sandoval, was 3rd.
