Mayra Dias, Miss Brazil Universe 2018, and Monalisa Alcântara, Miss Brazil Universe 2017 and Top 10 semi-finalist in Miss Universe.

Mayra Dias, 26, 1.75 m-tall, is the new Miss Brasil Be Emotion (Miss Brazil Universe). Dias hails from the city of Itacoatiara, state of Amazonas. She became the second womam from her state to win the national title, being the first Terezinha Morango, who placed 2nd (1st runner-up) in Miss Universe 1957, in Long Beach (USA).

The 1st runner-up was Miss Bahia, Maria Isabel, while Miss Ceará, Teresa Santos, came in a surprising 2nd runner-up position.

The biggest shock of the night happened when Débora Silva, Miss Santa Catarina, did not advance from the Top 5 to the Top 3, even after giving the best answer during the Q&A portion of the pageant. Silva was a huge press and fans´ favorite (she was GB´s number 1 pick for the crown as well).

Rounding out the Top 5 was Miss Alagoas, Isabella Burgui.

The representatives of Piauí, Pernambuco, Rio Grande do Norte, São Paulo and Goiás (the last one advanced after winning a make-up challenge called "Miss Be Emotion"), stopped in the Top 10. Quarter-finalists (Top 15) were Rio Grande do Sul, Paraíba, Minas Gerais, Distrito Federal and Espírito Santo.

Leonora Weiser, Miss Rio Grande do Sul, got her state´s worse result in the pageant since 1997, when Aline Riquinho completely missed the cut. Weiser shocked the pageant community when she won her state pageant by leaving Miss World finalist Sancler Frantz behind, in an unbelievable 3rd place.

One of the highlights of yesterday´s Miss Brazil pageant, was the tribute paid to Marta Vasconcellos, the last Brazilian woman to be crowned Miss Universe, 50 years ago.

Mayra Dias is not a new face for Brazilian pageant fans.

In 2015, she was elected Miss Amazonas World and compete in Miss Brazil World. Dias was a Top 20 quarter-finalist and the winner of "Best Runway" special award when competing at national level.

In the following year, she was designated as Brazil´s representative in Hispanic-American Queen 2016, in Bolivia: she placed 3rd (2nd runner-up).

Elected Miss Amazonas Universe a couple of months ago, Mayra was one of GB´s´s Top 3 choices for the title. She will now go on to compete in Miss Universe 2018.

We congratulate and wish her the best of luck!
