A scene widely seen and photographed in the Miss Universe contests that were held in Long Beach and Miami Beach in the 1950s and 1960s is almost repeated in Bangkok. Impeccably dressed in Thai dresses, 60 candidates for the title of Miss Grand International 2020 pose for the cameras of dozens of press photographers in front of a temple. Staff members change their positions more than a couple of times to arrive at the ideal photo. The sun burns, it is very hot, however, the beauties do not lose their pose. Suddenly, there´s a buzz between them. Sonia Luna, Miss Grand Ecuador, almost passes out. Contrary to what happened 60 years ago, when the poor fainted woman was photographed first and then received assistance, here everyone runs to help her. Shortly afterward, already recovered, she says that her tight shoes and the intense heat caused her discomfort. Her concern was to pass out and hurt some other candidate, that's when she decided to warn her. She has the class and the attitude of a true beauty queen.

This small incident that was quickly resolved did not take the glow off a morning when the candidates had the opportunity to visit the spectacular Palaces and Temples of the Emerald Buddha, one of the main, if not the main, attraction of the Thai capital. The candidates were impressed by the richness and quantity of details and colors seen in all directions, telling centuries of history of the only country in Southeast Asia that was never colonized by Europeans.

The place is regarded as the most sacred Buddhist temple in Thailand. The complex consists of a number of buildings within the precincts of the Grand Palace in the historical center of Bangkok. It houses the statue of the Emerald Buddha, which is venerated as the country's palladium. Something curious is that the Buddha changes outfits three times a year, depending on the weather season. The international delegates took a few minutes to meditate in front of it or to simply appreciate its beauty and meaning.

These are memories to be forever cherished.
