Miss Universe 2021 a day before the Preliminary Competition: what´s going on?
The 70th edition of Miss Universe is quite different from past ones. After about 10 days of the first arrivals, we have not seen a single competition or photos of all candidates during the same activity. A few years back, Miss Universe was unbeatable when it came to promotion: there were headshots, the highly anticipated Fadil Berisha shots, photographs of all delegates wearing their gowns and national costumes, and introduction videos of them all. Fans used to go crazy with such rich material!
In 2021, which marks the pageant´s 70th-anniversary edition, random photos from different events have been made available by the pageants´ press site, and fans will have a taste of some real competition with only two days to the final, with the Preliminary and the National Costume Competitions. This time around, at least when it comes to pre-final events and coverage, Miss Universe feels more like Miss International, offering cultural experiences and visits to historical places, which is not bad, we must add.
For instance, some candidates participated in a No Make-up photoshoot at the Isrotel Yam Suf Hotel in Eilat, Israel, like Marocco and Singapore. Meanwhile, India and the first-ever representative of Bahrain, enjoyed a morning attempting to swim with the dolphins, also in Eilat. There were yoga sessions at Dekel Beach, for another group of competitors. A handful of candidates, including Israel, Mexico, Brazil, and Colombia, modeled in Gottex, the official swimwear for the 70th Miss Universe competition.
Belgium, Malta, Bulgaria, among others, got to swim in the waters of the Dead Sea. There were those like Sweden, Germany, and Poland, who explored the Masada National Park. The Bahamas, Australia, and Iceland spent a day at Ein Karem in Jerusalem, Israel. For some lucky ladies, what an experience it must have been exploring the Old City of Jerusalem for the day! There was a time to dress up and attend a fashion show showcasing Haboydem and their sustainable dresses.
A Night Out at the Jerusalem Botanical Gardens, a visit to the David Tower, and more, were part of the pageant schedule of activities as well.
The fact is, the real competition starts this Friday, December 10th, when we will see all delegates hitting the runway in swimsuit, evening gowns and national costumes! You don´t want to miss them, so take note:
National Costume Competition - December 10th, 7 PM local time.
Preliminary Competition - December 10th, 9:30 PM local time.
You can watch these events LIVE, on Miss Universe´s YouTube channel.
