2009: ANALYSING THE MAIN CHANGES IN THE GRAND SLAM RANKING DURING THE PAST DECADE
The USA, Venezuela and England/UK, ended another decade in 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place, respectively. Brazil, 5th in 1999, was 4th in 2009, while Colombia jumped from 9th (1999) to 5th place (2009).
In 2009, Spain entered the Top 10 for the first time, in 10th place, while Germany, 11th in 2009, left the Top 10 for the first time ever.
Puerto Rico, 21st in 1999, was in 17th place in 2009. Mexico also had an excellent decated, going from 28th (1999) to 18th place (2009).
Russia went from 43rd to 32nd place in a decade. But it was China the nation which made the most significant jump of the decade: 160th in 1999, it was in the 45th position 10 years later.
A new Grand Slam pageant came to life in 2009: Miss Supranational. The Ukraine was its first winner, making the country jump from 81st place in 1999 to 49th, in 2009.

COUNTRY OF THE YEAR 2009: MEXICO
In 2009 Mexico was the Country of the Year for the 2nd time in just three years. Anagabriela Espinoza, who had been a semi-finalist in Miss World 2008, won the 2009 Miss International title. In Miss World, Perla Beltran, who was the huge favorite to take it all, finished 2nd. Mexico did not place in Miss Universe and did not send a representative to the Grand Slam's newcomer: Miss Supranational @misssupranational . The Poland based event emerged to stun the world with its impressive stage productions!
Venezuela came 2nd, with its back-to-back Miss Universe victory, with Stefanía Fernández, and a Top 15 placement in Miss International. Gibraltar took bronze after Kaiane Aldorino surprised the world by becoming Miss World.
