Carlotta Maggionara, 26, from Cupra Marittima, Le Marche, was elected Miss Italia 2018 on September 17th. This is the most traditional Italian pageant, even though the winner no longer competes internationally (she used to be sent to Miss Universe, until the organization started accepting the participation of married women).

A professional dancer and actress, Carlotta also loves sports and has taken part in the 2016 superbike world championship.

Fiorenza D'Antonio placed 2nd, and Chiara Bordi, who made worldwide news for being an amputee, placed 3rd. Chiara lost part of her left leg in a motorcycle accident when she was 13 years old.

Chiara Bordi: the eyes of the world were on her and she did not disappoint: 3rd place!

33 women competed in the event which took place for the first time in Milan and was telecast live by LA7 and LA7 2. This was Miss Italia´s 79th edition.

Congratulations and much success to the winner!

GB comment: The eyes of the world were on brave Chiara, who did really well by placing 3rd! We hope this is not an isolated case and that she opened doors for other women in the same situation in Italy or anywhere else in the world.
In time: it´s a pity Miss Italia does not compete internationally any longer. This is a true Italian tradition!
