Miss Universe: Demi Dazzles Mother City and Home Town
Miss Universe, Demi-Leigh Nel-Peters' homecoming tour continued with a visit to South Africa's Mother City, Cape Town, and her hometown, Sedgefield in the Western Cape. Following her short visit to Johannesburg, where she also presented her first Unbreakable workshope, Nel-Peters traveled back to her home province, the Western Cape.
During her short visit in Cape Town, she had several radio and newspaper interviews and attended a cocktail event for the Sun Met. Saturday was a day at the races for the South Africa's queen of the Universe as she rubbed shoulders with local and international celebrities at the annual Sun Met horse-racing event, including Usain Bolt, former Miss South Africa, Melinda Bam, and former Miss World, Rolene Strauss.
On Sunday, it was the day the 22 year old beauty had been waiting for, a triumphant return to her hometown, Sedgefield. Residents of the small town with a population of just over 8,000 people lined up in the streets to see the woman who has put their home on the map. Nel-Peters blew kisses as she waved to the crowd lining up in the streets from the back of a convertible. A special float was also designed for Nel-Peters. The float included a big globe with the Miss Universe crown on it and one of the beauty queen's old school desks. The Mayor of Knysna presented Nel-Peters with the keys to the city.
Chi and GlamitSA hosted a high tea event on Monday in Cape Town where Nel-Peters and Esteher Swan of the Miss Universe Organization were the guest of honour. Swan, who has been travelling with Miss Universe title holders for the past 18 years, described Nel-Peters as the most mature 22 year old she has ever met. Miss Universe will now travel to Sun City where a lucky fan will get the chance to spend the day with her before returning to New York City.
