Miss Brazil Be Emotion 2017
Monalysa Alcantara, a 18-year old model and student from the State of Piauí, was crowned Miss Brazil Be Emotion 2017 during the annual gala held at the resort island of Ilhabela (Sao Paulo) on August 19th.
Her crowning was historic due to two different circumstances: Monalysa is the first winner of Piauí in 58 years of the contest; also, there was a "back to back" for black winners. She is now the third Miss Brazil of African heritage, following Deise Nunes De Souza (1986) and Raissa Santana (2016). Monalysa stands 1.77 m in height and will represent Brazil in the Miss Universe 2017 pageant in November.
The first runner-up was Miss Rio Grande do Sul Juliana Muller, and the 2nd runner-up was Miss Espirito Santo Stephanie Pim. The show was televised live through Rede Bandeirantes.
The "Miss Brazil" competition was purchased in 2015 by company Polishop, owners of "Be Emotion", a brand of cosmetics, changing the name of the contest to "Miss Brazil Be Emotion" which is now on its 3rd year.
