Señorita Colombia 2017
CARTAGENA DE INDIAS, March 20 — And the host contestant walked away with the title, as Laura González Ospina, Srta. Cartagena, was crowned Señorita Colombia 2017 at the conclusion of a spectacular event held – for the first time – at Las Americas Convention Center in Cartagena on March 20th.
Due to new Miss Universe regulations, the competition – traditionally held in November together with the Independence festivities – was moved to a new date to allow Andrea Tovar to compete in the international pageant held last January.
22-year old Laura Gonzalez was always one of the big favorites for the title, and earned the highest scores by the judges in all competitions. The 1.77 m model with a degree in Dramatic Arts, vows to fight against bullying and homophobia and will represent Colombia in the 66th Miss Universe pageant to be held in January in a venue to be announced soon.
In second place, or “virreina”, was Srta. Antioquia, Vanessa Pulgarín (25) expected to represent the country in the Miss International 2017 competition to be held in Tokyo, Japan in October.
Completing the Top 5 were the contestants from Santander, Magdalena and Bogotá, respectively. For the first time the Colombia representative to Miss Supranational will be selected among the finalist of Señorita Colombia. It will be revealed who she is later in the year.
The spectacular stage, with the latest in technology, welcomed big-name artists such as Luis Fonsi, Miguel Bosé, Victor Manuelle and Piso 21.
