India is the first Asian to win the Mr World title, in 2016

Contrary to what happened in its most recent editions, Mr World 2016 results were pretty much within the expected, as the big favorite, India’s Rohit Khandelwal,was the chosen one (GB predicted it in its final Leaderboard). He got the sash from the hands of Mr 2014, Denmark’s Nicklas Pedersen in the conclusion of the event held in Southport, England.

As Mr World turned 20 (its first edition happened in Turkey, back in 1996), the Asian continent had its first ever winner last night. Rohit hails from Hyderabad, Telangana, a city of nearly 8 million inhabitants historically known as a pearl and diamond trading centre. The new Mr World is a graduate of Aurora Degree College who has been modeling quite a lot since he was picked as Mr India. He also wants to be an actor and film maker, which is great news for Bollywood. He’s 26, 1.82 m-tall.

First runner-up was Mr Puerto Rico, Fernando Alvarez Soto, 21, 1.83 m-tall, from Coamo. The second runner-up was Mr Mexico, Aldo Esparza Ramirez, 26, 1.85 m-tall, from  Etzatlán.

Rounding out the Top 5 were Mr Kenya, Kevin Oduor Owiti, 20, 1.78 m-tall, from Nairobi, and Mr England, Christopher Bramell, 23, 1.85 m-tall, from Liverpool.

Other Top 10 semi-finalists were Mr Brazil, Lucas Montandon, Mr China, Chang Zhousheng, Mr El Salvador, David Arias, Mr Poland, Rafał Jonkisz and Mr Scotland, Tristan Harper.

Challenge winners were India (Multimedia), England (Sports), Scotland (Extreme Sports), China (Top Model) and Poland (Talent). They all advanced to the semi-finals, while the other five to move forward were voted by the judges.

Mr World 2007 Juan Garcia Postigo, Mr World 2012 Francisco Escobar and CEO of Miss World Organizarion Julia Morley, were part of the judging panel.

The event was hosted by Miss World 2013 Megan Young, Mr World 2012 finalist from Canada Frankie Cena, and professional singer and former Mr England Jordan Williams.

In 20 years, this was Mr World’s 9th edition. It is unknown when the next edition of the world’s premiere male beauty contest will happen again.
