After most controversial Miss U tv show ever, Philippines is Miss Universe 2015
After Miss Colombia was announced as the winner, being congratulated by outgoing titleholder Paulina Vega and celebrating a back to back win, Miss Universe host Steve Harvey interrupted the pageant finale with an announcement: “I have to apologize”, he said.
Most people thought it was a funny moment, something probably scripted, but it wasn’t. It turned out to be a moment of confusion, disappointment, mixed excitement, and why not, horror, as Harvey confirmed that he had made a mistake during the announcement and that the new Miss Universe was Philippines (and not Colombia).
The Colombian beauty queen could not hide her disappointment and just stood there in shock as Vega took her crown and put it quicky on Miss Philippines’ head.
Congratulations to Pia Alonzo, Philippines’ third Miss Universe. She is not the one to blame. However, the memory of the bittersweet announcement will stay in the minds of the millions of viewers watching the pageant, especially of the Colombian supporters.

GB opinion: Like in Miss World, which happened one day before, the winner was not a heavy favorite who nonetheless pulled a great performance, beat the odds, and deserved to win. About the whole confusion, in the end it was good for the pageant, for the winner, and even for the presenter and Miss Colombia. Everyone profitted from it and Miss Universe got more publicity than it could have ever dreamed of. We wish Pia a great year as Miss Universe!
