Miss Supranational 2022: who stood out in the preliminary competition?

The night before the Miss Supranational preliminary competition, Andre Sleigh, the event's creative director, told the contestants that at the swimsuit parade, the judges would rate each miss from the neck up. He also recommended that everyone should wear wraps or outfits that cover most of their bottoms. “We don't care if you have cellulite or a pattern imposed by a sexist society. We want to see how confident each candidate is, how comfortable she feels in her own skin.”

Creative Director Andre Sleigh and his “angels”: Miss Supranational winners from 2018, Valeria Vazquez, 2021, Chanique Rabe, and 2019/20, Antonia Porsild.

The day after the preliminary competition, during the lunch offered to the national directors, Sleigh once again spoke about new values, times and ways of evaluating the Miss and Mister Supranational contestants: “Miss Supranational is becoming a teenager”, referring to to the fact that the contest celebrates its thirteenth year of existence. “It is time for this young lady to undergo important transformations, which will lead her to become a woman with well-defined values”.

Andre explained that what the organization is currently looking for are young people who want to be voices for this new generation, able to inspire others not only with words, but mainly with actions.

The Miss Supranational preliminary show took place for the first time in Miss Supranational history in high style, on the stage where the finals will also take place, at the Strzelecki Park Amphitheater, in Nowy Sącz, Malopolska. One by one, the candidates descended the ramp from the elaborate set, first in swimsuits. As planned and promised by the organizers, it was an elegant and tasteful fashion show, in which each young woman wore a swimsuit of her choice, in shades of pink or red.

Without much ado, shortly after the first presentation ended, the candidates returned to the catwalk in their evening gowns. Good taste (and common sense) prevailed in most cases, closing the contest's preliminary voting on a high note (the interviews had already taken place).

With new criteria in view, it becomes more complicated to predict who will be the finalists or the big winner, especially considering that we do not have access to the preliminary interviews. However, we can (and will!) highlight some performances on stage.

Argentina and Brazil, for example, stood out for the personal magnetism presented on the catwalk, the former with its supreme elegance, the latter with so much life and personality placed in every step! Both wore extraordinary evening gowns.

Colombia is one of the big favorites for the title and confirmed that on Tuesday night. She knew how to wear her dress like few others and passes on a perfect combination of confidence and humbleness. She's naturally beautiful.

Don't lose sight of the candidates from Costa Rica, Côte d'Ivoire, and Cuba, all very charming. Côte d'Ivoire was admitted to a local hospital for indisposition but returned in full force when it came time to compete. Cambodia, even having arrived late, delivered a magnificent presentation in evening gown!

The representative from the Czech Republic is another favorite who dazzled everyone with her radiant looks and beauty. She must be a finalist!

Haiti has been standing out since the beginning of the competition, demonstrating an extraordinary evolution from her participation in Miss Grand International, in 2021. She deserves to advance to the Top 24.

India is even more stunning in person than in photos and videos. Her swimsuit performance was a perfect “10”, as was her evening gown walk. She lights up the catwalk and any room she enters! India is definitely up for a third title!

Indonesia is another mega favorite for the title. She has a beautiful face, she is smart, and on the catwalk, Miss Indonesia doesn't walk, she rather floats!

It's impossible to look at Jamaica and not think of Zozibini, Miss Universe 2019! Despite the physical resemblance, the Jamaican has her own unique personality, is pleasant and becomes a real hurricane on the catwalk!

Malta, Namibia and Panama delivered solid presentations. Malta has been fighting for a Miss Supranational placement for years, it's possible that such a memento has arrived. Namibia is confident, elegant, and even with all the pressure on her shoulders, she's been doing great.

We totally love Malaysia´s energy and state presence! With a mic, she shines as well. We expect her to do well.

Mauritius: It's not often that we see this country located on the Indian Ocean stand out so much in a Grand Slam beauty contest! With her natural beauty, pleasant personality, and superb elegance, we may be facing not only a possible finalist, but a possible winner! How far will she get?

Nigeria delivered one of the most solid performances on stage among the African delegates, expect her to do well.

Peru has been doing everything right since she arrived in Poland and also stood out in the preliminary event. When she smiles, the Peruvian representative becomes even more beautiful. Philippines was off for a while, but in the preliminary, she finally seemed to wake up and demonstrate that she was in the game. Puerto Rico also stood out with a phenomenal aura and presentations that pleased everyone.

Poland is one of the most beautiful host candidates in the history of Miss Supranational! We dare to say that she topped the swimsuit competition and, her posture in the evening gown parade, wowed the audience. She is magnificent and must fight for some meaningful placement on Friday night.

Romania has a really good vibe and Victoria's Secret model air. She can advance. Spain, the beautiful daughter of Cuban parents who enchants everyone with her pleasant personality, steps on the catwalk with fierceness and makes herself noticed with a lot of presence and charm.

South Africa “killed it” both in swimsuit and evening gown! She delivered flawless performances on stage and is very focused to maintain her “the one to beat” status.

South Africa

Trinidad & Tobago is smooth and elegant, her face is very pretty. Turkiye, elected Miss Elegance just a few days earlier, may have tried to make a very risky “fashion statement”, entering the stage wearing a short cocktail dress, instead of a long gown. Having or not worked for her, she looked fabulous. Ukraine has strength in her performances and did very well in the preliminary.

Thailand, despite not having a 100% approved choice of evening gown, is one of the most beautiful candidates around and has some stage presence. She's among the favorites. Venezuela fills the catwalk with her impressive presence and great confidence, on top of looking stunning.

Vietnam, another of the favorites, gave great presentations and is still in the running.

We like Zambia and Zimbabwe very much, especially after having had the opportunity to listen to them during the From the Ground Up interviews. They are beautiful, confident women who delivered excellent presentations in the preliminary.

In addition to all those that we have highlighted, we cannot fail to mention other great performances, such as Belgium, Canada, Curaçao, Dominican Republic, Ecuador, Finland, Germany, Ghana, Guatemala, Kazakhstan, Japan, Mexico, Lesotho, Netherlands, Paraguay, and Singapore.

However, we must emphasize that all the young candidates, each in her own way, stood out in some way.

The final takes place this Friday at 20:00 local time, and we wish you all the best of luck!
