MGI 2022: In a great 10th anniversary celebration, Brazil wins a Grand Slam title after 51 years!
The 10th edition of Miss Grand International, concluded on October 25 at the Sentul International Convention Center, West Java, Indonesia, had Isabella Menin from Brazil confirming her favorite status and walking away with the title. This is Brazil´s 5th Grand Slam title and the first in 51 years (the last woman to have won a Grand Slam title for Brazil before Isabella, was Lucia Petterle, who was elected Miss World in 1971.
Engfa Waraha, Thailand, placed 2nd, while Andina Julie, from Indonesia, was 3rd. The representatives of Venezuela, Luiseth Materán, and Czech Republic, Mariana Bečková, placed 4th and 5th, respectively.
The Grand Slam pageant celebrated its 10th edition in high style, with a phenomenal opening number and a spectacular production. Over 14 million people have watched so far on Grand TV. Candidates from 68 countries and territories competed for the title and US$ 40,000 cash prize.
Menin, 26, was crowned by Miss Grand International 2021, Nguyen Thuc Thuy Tien, from Vietnam.
Out of the 68 participating contestants, 10 were selected as semi-finalists.
In addition to the above-mentioned Top 5, they were:
Cambodia, Pich Votey Saravody; Colombia, Priscilla Londoño; Mauritius, Yuvna Rinishta (winner of the Popular vote); Puerto Rico, Oxana Rivera; and Spain, Hirisley Jimenez.
The peace speech would help define the Top 5, and the surprise when they were called was the non-inclusion of Puerto Rico, who even sent a message to the president of Russia in Russian. The Czech Republic, Brazil, and Indonesia, also delivered excellent and inspiring speeches.
The last stage was a question-answer round, with the host asking the same question to all five finalists, “If you had the opportunity to send a message to Russian President Vladimir Putin, what message would you like to convey?”
“War will only create wounds and what we can do is start taking real action even if it is small, carry out diplomacy and understand each other. Because together, war and wounds will disappear,” replied Menin, impressing the judges and winning the coveted title. Miss Grand Czech Republic also gave an excellent answer and was expected to rank higher after that.
The new Miss Grand International was born in the city of Marília and lived in London until recently, where she got her BA in Economics and MA in Finance. The new Miss Grand International is also an Italian citizen. When she was 16 years old, she won the Miss Teen International title, in Costa Rica. She enjoys acting, singing, and photography. She founded an organization named Beyond Project, which supports associations for people with disabilities in Brazil. Isabella´s mother compete in the Miss International Brazil pageant in 1990, representing the state of Ceará.

Miss Social Media: Czech Republic, Mariana Bečková.
Best in Evening Gown: Mexico, Laysha Salazar.
Best National Costumes (4 winners): Peru, Janet Leyva; Thailand, Engfa Waraha; United Kingdom, Sofia Mayers; and Vietnam, Đoàn Thiên Ân.
Best National Director: Vietnam – Phạm Kim Dung
2nd place: Japan – Eriko Inoda
3rd place: Spain – Vicente Gonzalez
Miss Grand Global Beauties: Brazil, Isabella Menin.
Eight MGI winners were VIP guests at the event, while Thai television personality Matthew Deane once again hosted the event. Ivan Gunawan, a local television personality and entrepreneur, was responsible for taking the event to Indonesia, playing the role of a perfect host. MGI 2022 was co-hosted by Jakarta and Bali. The president of MGI is Mr. Nawat Itsaragrisil. Ms. Teresa Chaivisut is the vice-president of the prestigious pageant.
The Top 10 semi-finalists all received crowns and stayed in Indonesia and Thailand to participate in a series of activities. Miss Mauritius has refused to sign a contract with the organizers and shall be replaced. Isabella Menin will move to Bangkok, where she will live for the next year.
