Miss Grand International 2020 comes from the United States of America!

Evelyn Abena Appiah, 27, was elected Miss Grand International 2020 on the conclusion of the first Grand Slam event of the 2020´s, and the first major beauty contest to take place during the Covid-19 pandemic, held at the Show DC Hall, in Bangkok, Thailand, on March 27th. She received the golden crown from the hands of Valentina Figuera, Miss Grand International 2019. Abena, who had also competed in Miss Universe 2015 representing Ghana, is the first black woman to conquer the MGI title. She´s also the 6th representative from a country from the Americas t to be elected Miss Grand International in the pageant´s eight editions.

Appiah emerged as the winner after a triple tie with the representatives of the Philippines, Samantha Bernardo, and Guatemala, Ivana Batch, who also had to answer a second question and ended as 1st and 2nd runner-up, respectively. Miss Grand Indonesia, Aurra Kharishma, was the 3rd runner-up, while Brazil´s Lala Guedes was the 4th runner-up.

The top 5 will spend two weeks in Thailand before returning home.

For the first time, the judges´ scores, which included former MGI titleholders who voted from their own countries, were displayed. After the peace speech and evening gown walk, Puerto Rico, Fabiola Valentin, placed 6th (9,48 score), Thailand, Patcharaporn “Nam” Chantarapadit, was in 7th place (9,45), Malaysia, who entered the Top 10 through the popular vote and delivered a great speech, followed in 8th place (9,39), Denisa Spergerová of the Czech Republic was 9th (9,35), and Argentina, Mariana Varela, rounded out the Top 10 in 10th place (9,15).

El Salvador, Luciana Martinez Cienfuegos (11th place), Panama, Angie Keith (12th), Dominican Republic, Lady Leon (13th), Kenya, Irene Ng’endo (14th), Mexico, Angela Leon Yuriar (15th), Peru, Maricielo Gamarra (15th), Vietnam, Nguyen Lê Ngoc Thao (17th), England, Stephanie Wyatt (18th), Japan, Ruri Saji (19th), Cambodia, Chily Liv (20th), and Myanmar, Han Lay (21st).
