MGI 2021: The Best in Swimsuit competition review (Top 20 performances)
Anyone who watches the Best in Swimsuit event on the internet may have no idea of all the details that go on behind the scenes. At 4 am, the candidates were already being made up and combed for the challenge that would follow. They left the hotel at 6 am, taking their breakfast boxes in hand. The destination was the Phuket Yacht Club, where the competition would take place.
Production of the 59 candidates continued at the event site, where one by one they were photographed for official photos in MGM swimsuits. All wore the same orange one-piece outfit. Among photos, stories for their IG accounts, some training, and a lot of anxiety, the candidates were waiting for the moment to enter the improvised catwalk at the local pier.
The judges, Mr. Nawat Itsaragrisil, Ms. Teresa Chaivisut, and the current Miss Grand International, Abena Akuaba, were positioned on a yacht. Some of the opening scenes of the event had been previously recorded, in the rehearsal that took place the day before, and with everything ready, the names of their countries and territories were announced and it was showtime!
We´ve seen movements beyond exaggerated by some candidates contrasting with the discreet elegance of others. There were also those who found a balance, seeking to hit the nails when it comes to achieving what MGI looks for. And what would that be? According to President Nawat, a fit body and a confident catwalk, without losing elegance (and common sense!).
The thermometers read 31 degrees Celcius, but the thermal sensation was over 40 degrees, with a lot of humidity. While candidates from countries starting with the first letters of the alphabet accomplished their mission quickly, those starting with the last letters of the alphabet waited in a large boat for quite some time, smiling under the scorching heat, waiting for their moment to shine. It was challenging, however, once again the 600,000+ fans who followed the action on the internet were thrilled with the performances of delegates from 59 locations and updated their lists of favorites!
Now it's time to highlight 20 candidates who, in our humble opinion, stood out at this stage of the competition. They will be announced in alphabetical order.
AUSTRALIA
Angolina has one of the best figures in the competition. We loved her performance, which definitely put Australia in the game!
BRAZIL
Lorena delivered a fun performance with plenty of confidence and style. She nailed it!
COLOMBIA
What a face! Mariana might not have the best catwalk skills in the group (perhaps she´s saving her best moves for later on), but she is extremely charming and enchanted everyone effortlessly!
COSTA RICA
A top contender for the title, Adriana performed so well last Sunday! She´s stunning.
DOMINICAN REPUBLIC
Beauty, confidence, posture. Stephanie got it all, and little by little is growing in the competition.
ECUADOR
Andrea was pure sex appeal on the runway, catching everyone´s attention! She has that “it factor” the judges look for in a winner.
EL SALVADOR
We are not surprised to see Iris doing so well on the runway, after all, this gorgeous young woman is the current International Queen of Coffee. Her stage presence is impressive!
GERMANY
How not to love Luisa? She´s beautiful, confident, and knows what she´s doing. It´s great to see Germany competing fiercely in a Grand Slam pageant, eye on her!
GUATEMALA
This statuesque and tall Guatemalan stunner did a superb job at this stage of the competition. Maria Jose delivered one of the best performances in swimsuit.
INDONESIA
A model who became a beauty queen, Sophie exudes elegance and class on the runway.
MEXICO
Mariana has a super figure and put on a great performance competing in swimwear. She´s been growing!
NETHERLANDS
Though Nathalie might have lacked a bit of energy on her walk, she is so stunning, natural and genuine, that she shinned and stood out in the group. We have always loved her, since Miss Supranational!
PANAMA
What a tornado! Katie absolutely stunned the audience with her confidence and firm steps on the runway. And we might add: what a body!!
PARAGUAY
What we love the most about Jimena is her radiant smile, which is full of energy. When she´s in action, it´s impossible not to have all eyes on her.
PUERTO RICO
Beautiful face, great figure, and very elegant, Viviane has been mastering her game. Strong!
SOUTH AFRICA
Oh, wow! Like Germany, South Africa is a very pleasant surprise in Miss Grand International 2021. Her performance was flawless and she looked absolutely stunning!
SPAIN
Alba is another elegant and classy candidate, who did what she had to do and stood out. Her face is among the most beautiful in the competition.
THAILAND
We loved Thailand yesterday! Indy has a great figure and masters the runway like few.
VENEZUELA
Vanessa certainly delivered one of the best performances in yesterday´s competition, showing confidence, preparation and a superb figure!
VIETNAM
Vietnam is another candidate that does not need to do much to get the spotlight on her. Her performance was solid.
It was a good competition, though in terms of production it did not match the 2020 edition (which is indeed hard to beat!).
