2005: ANALYSING THE MAIN CHANGES IN THE GRAND SLAM RANKING DURING THE PAST YEAR

  • After placing 3rd in Miss International, Finland went up two notches, returning to the Top 5, in 5th place;

  • Winning the Miss World crown made Iceland jump 4 positions, landing on the 24th place in the Grand Slam Ranking;

  • Canada, the Miss Universe winner, had also made an impressive move: up 5, going fro 32nd to 27th;

  • Indonesia returned to Miss Universe with a Top 15-placement, which allowed it to move from house 92 to 88 (up 4 notches);

  • Tanzania, 100th, up 30, was the best mover of the year, after a Top 6 placement in Miss World; Latvia, a Top 10-finisher in Miss Universe, moved from 114th to 93rd place, up 21 notches.

Oh, Canada! In 2005 Canada became the Country of the Year for the first time! A Miss Universe winner, Natalie Glebova, and a Top 15 placement in Miss World, with Romina Amiri, were enough to put Canada on top! The Philippines came 2nd, after winning Miss International, with Precious Lara Quigaman, and getting to the Top 15 of Miss World, with Carlene Aguilar. It was a very close race! Iceland, with its 3rd Miss World winner, Unnur Birna, came 3rd.

This is how the top nations of 2005 scored in the Grand Slam Ranking:

1) Canada (3451 points);
2) Philippines (3201);
3) Iceland (3000).

Top 5: Puerto Rico (2351) and Dominican Republic (2251).
