Grand Slam Ranking and Country of the Year 2001
2001: ANALYSING THE MAIN CHANGES IN THE GRAND SLAM RANKING DURING THE PAST YEAR
After its Miss Universe victory, Puerto Rico finally moved into the Top 20, in 18th place (up 3 notches);
Poland, after winning its 3rd Miss International title, has also made an impressive move, going from 29th to the 25th position in the Grand Slam Ranking, its best historical placement up to that moment;
2nd in Miss World 2001, Aruba made it to the Top 50 for the first time, in 49th place (up 11);
Nigeria went from 96th to 64th place in the ranking, up 32 notches! It was also the “Country of the Year”, in a historical 2001, when it captured its first Miss World title;
The best mover of the year, though, was China, emerging from the 162nd place to 94th (+68). China made it to the Top 5 of Miss World that year, its first great Grand Slam result. It was the beginning of a great run. Keep an eye on China from now on!

COUNTRY OF THE YEAR 2001: NIGERIA
It was time for Africa in 2001, as Nigeria took honors as the Country of the Year! Stunning Agbani Darego first participated in Miss Universe, in Puerto Rico, having placed in the Top 10. Months later, she traveled to South Africa and took it all when competing for the Miss World title. A "team of one", Agbani was responsible for Nigeria's outstanding performance that year. Puerto Rico, the Miss Universe winner, with striking @denisequinones9 , came 2nd, and Poland, winner of Miss International for the 3rd time, with beautiful Malgorzata Rozniecka, was 3rd.
