AFTER BECOMING THE FIRST NATION TO WILL ALL GRAND SLAM TITLES, ARGENTINA BECOMES A TOP 5 POWERHOUSE
In 1967, Argentina became the first country to conquer all existing Grand Slam titles back then: Miss World (in 1960), Miss Universe (in 1962), and finally, Miss International (in 1967). So it was no surprise to see it as the first Latin American country to integrate the very select group of the Top 5 powerhouses in pageantry, in 5th place.
Israel, who had been knocking on the Top 10 door for over a decade, finally sneaked in, in 9th place, which was quite an accomplishment for a small nation which had been collecting great Grand Slam results, though not a single victory that far.
After winning the Miss World 1967 title, Peru moved three important notches up, going from 17th to 14th place. The biggest mover of the year, though, was Ghana: +26, now 68th, after placing in Miss World´s Top 15.
Iceland lost its #1 position in the Miss International Ranking to the USA.

COUNTRY OF THE YEAR 1967: USA (AGAIN!)
When it came to beauty pageants, in the 1960s no one could come even close to the US of A! In 1967, it was, once again, the Country of the Year. Sylvia Louise Hitchcock (photo, center) became the 4th American woman to win the Miss Universe title. Though the US did extremely well in Miss International and in Miss World throughout the 1960s, it would always get very close to winning but stopped there. 1967 wasn't an exception. Long Beach ended up promoting the Miss International contest after some heavy uncertainty and no pageant in 1966. It finally happened in April of 1967, before Miss U and Miss W. There the US placed 3rd, with Pamela Elfast (photo, right). Mirta Teresita Massa of Argentina was the winner. In Miss World, won by Peru's Madeleine Hartog-Bel, the United States placed in the Top 15, with Pamela Valari Pall (photo, left).
The Top 3 from 1967:
1- USA (4450 points)
2- Argentina (4001 points)
3- Peru (3876 points).
