1962: TIMES OF GLORY FOR ARGENTINA!
What a phenomenal year 1962 was for Argentina! First, Norma Nolan was crowned Miss Universe, in Florida. Then, in Long Beach, Maria Victoria Bueno nearly did it again, placing 2nd in Miss International. In Miss World, Argentina also did well, with a Top 15 semi-finalist, María Amalia Ramírez. It was more than enough to make the only South American country to have a Miss Universe and a Miss World by then, the "Country of the Year" in 1961. The Netherlands, after the same Catharina Lodders finishing 4th in Miss International and winning the Miss World title, was 2nd that year. Holland didn't place in Miss Universe. Though Australia won the Miss International title, it was Finland who placed 3rd among the best-performing nations of 1962, with a 3rd place in Miss Universe, a 2nd in Miss World, and a Miss Int'l semi-finalist.
