COUNTRY OF THE YEAR 1957: TIED, FINLAND AND PERU SHARE HONORS

Once again we have two "Countries of the Year", instead of one: Finland and Peru. In 1957, only two Grand Slam pageants existed, the two mega events of beauty: Miss World and Miss Universe . Finland wins the Miss World title with a blonde bombshell called Marita Lindahl, while Peru becomes the first Latin America nation to win Miss Universe, with a striking brunette: Gladys Zender.

Peru did not participate in Miss World and Finland did not send a representative to Miss Universe, so both countries scored the same 3000 points, enough to "cover the year".

In 3rd place that year was Japan, with a 5th place in Miss World and a Top 15 semi-finalist in Miss Universe.
