FRANCE TAKES THE LEAD OF THE GRAND SLAM RANKING

With two Grand Slam victories in one year, France overtook Sweden, leading the Grand Slam Ranking for the first time. Sweden is now in a comfortable 2nd place, followed by France in the 3rd position. With the 4th place in Miss Universe 1953, Mexico takes the 7th place overall, and first in Latin America. Hawaii, although 5 notches down from 1952, manages to remain in the Top 10, in 10th place.

In 1953, France managed to win the two main international beauty titles: Miss World , with Denise Perrier, and Miss Universe, with Christiane Martel. Therefore, it was the undisputed Country of the Year 1953. The USA, with a 2nd place in Miss Universe, and placing 5th in Miss World, took the silver medal that year, followed by Greece in 3rd place, with a vice-Miss World.
