For the first time in the 68 year history of the Miss World Contest, a woman from Mexico touched down in her home country as the holder of the ‘most coveted crown in beauty’. 26 year old Vanessa Ponce de Leon, Miss World 2018, arrived in Mexico City accompanied by Miss World CEO, Julia Morley.
After being serenaded by a singer with a live band, a press conference organized by the Miss Mexico Organization, was hosted by last year’s runner-up and Miss Mexico 2017, Andrea Meza. It was the first time the local media outlets got to interview their new queen as the reigning Miss World.
As she left, the press conference, Ponce was overcome by emotions as she greeted to big crowd of supporters who came to offer their congratulations. “I could cry forever,” she told the Miss World Organisation. “I did not expect this at all.” For more than two hours, the airport was almost at a complete standstill as fans flocked in to welcome their queen.
Later today, the new Miss World and Mrs. Morley will meet the President of Mexico, His Excellency Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador. Stay tuned for more updates.
