Miss Turkey 2017 Dethroned

Just hours after her victory in Thursday night's Miss Turkey contest, 18 year old Itir Esen was stripped of her crown and title on Friday. The Miss Turkey Organization released a statement in which they confirmed that a tweet posted by Esen was unacceptable and that she would lose her title. The young woman's social media post commented on the anniversary of a coup attempt against Turkish president, Recep Tayyip Erdogan. Organizers stated that they spent a long time investigating the matter and they found that the tweet was indeed by Esen and deemed it insulting to the 250 people killed on July 15, 2016.
