Miss Universe 2017 Starts Tour of the Philippines
It was the weeks before Christmas that brought the reigning Miss Universe, Demi-Leigh Nel-Peters and a bevy of her Miss Universe sisters to the Philippines to spread festive cheer and joy in this pageant adoring nation. The South African beauty who won the crown on November 26th in Las Vegas arrived in the country earlier this week for her first international visit less than 10 days after winning the title. She is accompanied by the delegates from the USA, Singapore, India, Russia, Netherlands, South Korea, Canada, China, Italy, Great Britain, Malaysia and of course the Philippines. Two other special guests who are also part of this special tour is last year's Miss Universe, Iris Mittenaere from France, who was crowned in Manila in January and Miss Universe 2015, the Philippines' very own Pia Wurtzbach.
The visit forms part of the Department of Tourism's Bring Home A Friend campaign. The beauties started their day by visiting the Rizal Monument for wreath laying ceremony before visiting some of Manila's important tourist attractions. The current and 2 former Miss Universe winners took part in a special press conference. There was also a special welcome dinner and a chance to celebrate the birthday of Paula Shugart, President of the Miss Universe Organization. Over the coming days, the group will be split into 3 and they will travel Batanes, Bohol and Camiguin. A special fashion show will be held towards the end of their tour. The members of the Miss Universe Organization will also use this tour to informally discuss the possibility of the 7,107 islands hosting the next Miss Universe competition.
