Miss Universe 2017: Demi-Leigh Dazzles During Media Week
Less than 12 hours after being crowned Miss Universe 2017, South Africa's Demi-Leigh Nel-Peters was whisked away to take a bit out of the Big Apple. Nel-Peters will be based in New York City during her reign, working for the Miss Universe Organization like all her predecessors. Just two days after she arrived, her media week started.
During her visit to the Empire State Building, Nel-Peters believed that aside from working hard work and lots of preparation, destiny also played a part in her winning the title. She went on to state that she hoped to break the stereoptype that women have to be only beautiful or brainy.
When Nel-Peters appeared on Good Morning, America she mentioned her 'Unbreakable' campaign in South Africa through which she tried to empower women with knowledge and skills to handle difficult situations. In June, she was almost hijacked by 5 armed robbers in Pretoria. She told Ryan Seacrest on Live With Kelly and Ryan that doing a course three months prior to that helped her to escape unharmed.
