Miss World 2017 Returns to India for Homecoming
India's first Miss World in 17 years old touched down in Mumbai to start her homecoming tour. Despite arriving at 2am in the morning, Manushi Chhillar was met by thousands of excited fans who gave her a warm welcome. She was joined by the CEO of Miss World, Julia Morley, and Steve Douglas, Miss World's Events Director. Mr. World, Rohit Kandelwal from India also welcomed the delegation at the airport.
Shortly after arriving, Chhillar offered prayers at the Shree Siddhivinayak Ganapati Temple. She is the 6th Indian women from India to have won the title, a tie with Venezuela for having the most Miss World winners of any nation.
During a press conference that has just wrapped up, Natasha Grover, the National Director of Femina Miss India, welcomed the delegation to India. Morley told the press that it was an honor to bring home a young lady who is so proud of her country. She further stated that it was a proud moment for her to return to India with one of their own as Miss World and said there was nothing better than an Indian celebration. Responding to a question from one of the reporters, Morley said she couldn't give an answer as to why it took 17 years for India to win again, stating that the decision is made by the jury. She said that the organisation has always loved India and they never left them as they have a history of working together very closely.
Chhillar thanked her home country for their support and said that the love she carried from her country helped her to win the title. She quoted Miss World 2014, Rolene Strauss, saying that the story of her book is more meaningful than her cover and believes that is what the Miss World Organization promotes and stands for. The new Miss World described her excitement about returning to India, saying that she couldn't sleep as she was too excited about touching down in her motherland. She said that she is still hoping to meet one of her heroes, Miss World 1966, Reita Faria. Chhillar also said that she plans to resume her medical studies after her reign. She mentioned that she has received an offer from her home state of Haryana to work for them and is hoping to give back to her state, her nation and the world in her new role as the world's most beautiful woman.
