More than a 120 beauties from all around the world arrived in Guangzhou, China last Friday before heading off to Shenzhen where the first leg of the Miss World competition has been taking place. While the official social media and the website have not been as active as last year, we have been managed to follow the action and can bring you a recap of what happened in the first week.

As soon as the girls arrived, it was straight down to business as they were put through their paces. Talent auditions took place. We are also delighted that Dances of the World will be back this year and the girls went through auditions for that too.

Shenzhen in southern China, close to Hong Kong, is now a modern, sprawling city with a population of more than 11 million. The girls got to do some sightseeing in the city and also did some filming here. They were treated to an evening barbecue and watched a cultural show in the city.

The girls also spent a day at the Shenzhen's People's Congress and Female Entrepreneurs of Shenzhen event. Julia Morley, Miss World CEO, gave a speech at this event. The contestants from BotswanaIndia, the Dominican RepublicAustraliaScotland and Colombia were invited to address the audience on behalf of the group. On Thursday night, the charity gala took place and we will bring you more from that event later today.

The girls will next travel to Huangshan (Yellow Mountain) to enjoy the scenery at one of China's most popular tourist destinations.
